About

David ‘Kawika’ Viets

Aloha Friends,

Settling in Hawai’i in 1998, opened my eyes to the incredible beauty of the tropics, and the troubles of the native forest. I have been committed since, to the plant world.

My Uncle, Robert Moore, immediately introduced me to the botanical gardens and forests of Hawai’i. Having a lifelong fascination with nature, made it easy to see the distinction between intact ancient native forest areas and the tropical trees from other parts of the world, that now cover most of the lowlands.

For 23 years, Ive had the opportunity and honor to work in Hawaiian forest conservation, rare plant propagation, habitat restoration, botanical garden collection, horticulture, botanical research, and ornate gardening.

Featuring rare native plants and botanical garden specimens in our gardens not only celebrates their unique design and beauty, but also is a situation where these endangered plants can flourish.

Gardens created with special plants are full of stories. Unique plants all come from unique places, especially the threatened species, usually clinging to the last remaining intact habitat that they originally evolved to.

I offer design and planning for distinctly beautiful and interesting gardens, featuring specimen plants and private botanical gardens.

Looking forward to meeting you in the Garden!

Mahalo, David ‘Kawika’ Viets
